Cultivating Global
Startups from Japan
At ITV, we are driven by a vision of fostering transformative new industries and propelling social progress. Our reach extends beyond Japan's borders, as we aspire to create globally impactful startups that deliver tangible social value.
Currently, only one Japanese company ranks among the world's top 100 by market capitalization. While this may seem like a daunting challenge, we are unwavering in our belief that Japan has the potential to nurture world-class startups.
History has shown us that even the world-famous Japanese electronics and automotive giants began their journeys as startups, driven by the passion and determination of entrepreneurs. These companies have since evolved into global enterprises, becoming cornerstones of the Japanese economy.
Japan possesses a wealth of world-class technology and talent. By investing in these resources and collaborating with aspiring entrepreneurs, we can build on Japan's past successes and establish businesses that leave an indelible mark on the global stage.
To achieve this ambitious goal, we at ITV must also embrace continuous evolution. Since our inception in 2000, we have invested in numerous startups, both domestically and internationally, building a track record of successful exits. But we are not stopping there. We remain committed to pushing boundaries and making a positive impact on Japan and the world.
Taking on the Challenge
of New Frontiers
Together with
Entrepreneurs
I assumed the position of ITV CEO in April 2024, and I intend to utilize my experience in startup investments gained over many years at ITOCHU Corporation. Transitioning into this new role has filled me with immense excitement, as it extends the opportunities to collaborate with entrepreneurs and forge new business ventures.
In corporate investment, decisions are often driven by the synergies with a company’s existing businesses. This limits the scope of investment opportunities to those that align with ITOCHU's strategic goals and are at a later stage where synergies can be realized.
However, as a venture capital firm, ITV offers a different approach. While we are still mindful of returns, we have the flexibility to invest in startups from an early stage, unconstrained by industry boundaries. This allows us to engage deeply with founders, supporting their growth and helping them shape the future of their businesses.
Our investment decisions are made from a multifaceted perspective, carefully considering technological advantages, business models, and financial viability. However, a key factor we always prioritize is the potential of the founding team. We seek teams that function cohesively, not just individuals with brilliant ideas. We look for founders with a global mindset and the determination to succeed in the international business field. Alongside such exceptional teams, we are ready to roll up our sleeves and work tirelessly to achieve our shared goals.
Empowering Startups
by Leveraging
ITOCHU Group’s
Networks
I believe ITV itself holds immense potential for growth. Having spent seven years in Silicon Valley, I have built a robust network of connections with top-tier VCs and entrepreneurs. Through these partnerships, ITOCHU has developed new businesses with over 30 startups and supported their expansion into the Japanese and Asian markets.
This strong connection to Silicon Valley is the hallmark of ITV. We are committed to leveraging ITOCHU Group's extensive network to stay abreast of global trends and translate them into actionable insights for our investment and startup support initiatives.
ITV exists as a hybrid VC, combining the agility of an independent VC with the comprehensive strength of the ITOCHU Group. This unique positioning allows us access to a diverse pool of expertise within the Group, enabling us to provide startups with tailored support from industry specialists.
Our vision is to harness this collective strength, empowering each capitalist to refine their expertise and work cohesively as a team to actively support our portfolio companies. We would like you to join us on this exciting journey as we shape the innovative future together.
